Vampire Knight Guilty Episode 01: “The Sinners of Fate ~Guilty~”

Summary: After Kaname Clan has killed Hio Shizuka, Kiryuu Zero fell into a Level-E state. To please Yuuki and bring him out of it, Kaname offered Zero his own blood. Zero has returned to normal, but finds himself still desiring Yuuki, who is unaware that he has Kaname’s blood within him. Zero is being held responsible for Shizuka’s death, and the Vampire Council has put a hit on him for killing a pureblood. Kaname sends them to retreat, but for standing up for Zero against the council, he will be reported. Yuuki knows it is impossible for Zero to have killed Shizuka, and wants Kaname to declare that he knows it is as well.

Maria, the girl who Shizuka was possessing to entire the academy, awakens. She states that Shizuka was really after the enemy of all purebloods, but will not say who it is, and Kaname will not tell Zero as well.

Thoughts: This episode begins like a direct continuation of the first season, only using a little bit of time to remind us what happened when season 1 ended. I’m thankful because I needed a bit of a refresher. I think I established that I’m a Kaname fan, even though Zero isn’t too bad either. Kaname is just my type. This episode starts more or less EXACTLY where the manga was at when I began reading Shoujo Beat, but I was still surprised at this Shizuka plot with the pureblood enemy, and don’t think I’ve read anything about it in the manga yet, or missed it when it was talked about.

Yuuki is a bit frustrating. I really wish she’d pick a guy, but from friends over at Romance Anime Forums have mentioned, it seems she still hasn’t, even in the manga. That puts a damper on the series for me, but I can still enjoy all the gothic sexiness in the meantime.
