CLANNAD ~After Story~ Episode 08: “Valiant Fight”
Summary: Despite attempts at negotions, both gangs are insistant on fighting. Yukine is able to agree to just Kazuto and the leader of the rival gang fighting, except they still think Sunohara is Kazuto. Sunohara intends to fill in his place, but after eating some of Sanae’s bread for good luck, everyone falls ill except the girls and Tomoya. He duels it out with the leader, even though this greatly upsets Nagisa. They battle it out, but then a figure seeming to be Kazuto appears and charges down towards them. The rival gang leader strikes him out right to reveal it was just Yukine in disguise. She cries, wishing everyone would just stop fighting. The next morning they follow her to the family grave, revealing that Kazuto died awhile ago. Everyone reaches a peaceful understanding a prays. A ball of light floats up into the air, and Tomoya is the only one who sees it. Yukine explains it is a ball of happiness, but only few can see it nowadays, so Tomoya must be special.
Thoughts: A lot of the episodes have the preface of the lonely girl and her robot in the cold, abandoned land of floating lights. This episode ties back into it, in that the robot wants to take the girl to where the lights are coming from, as she grows weak from the cold. I’m starting to see the idea that maybe the land without happiness only sees the lights from Tomoya’s world as they reach there. Some kind of parallel universe.
That aside, I hope the next arc has something to offer with the original cast. I look at the last arcs as being more or less fillers. Distracting fillers that I would like to move away from!

I agree with your thoughts, they need to start an arc focusing more on the original cast.

I had the same guess! Parallel universe. Remember Kotomi’s arc from s1? Her parents were doing research on that universe and the lights, then the paper just disappeared because of the crash ): I sense a plot twist coming soon.
